One difference for certain is the wheel size. I also recall reading a post some time ago that included a picture of a welded in front strut support on a 2001.5 that was not on the 2001. I could be misremembering that, though.

if you get the quattro celebration package on the 2001.5 it has 17" wheels.
there's also a factory strut tower brace on the 2001.5
other then that, it's exactly the same car
