2001.5 CD changer options
Just purchased a 2001.5 A4. And wisely decided to not get the factory cd changer. Nevertheless, I am looking for a 6 disc changer for my car. Could someone please advise me of my options and what materials/brackets/adaptators are needed to make the changer interface with my Symphony radio. Thanks in advance.

Don't think there is a difference between S4 and A4 in which case the interface is (more)
built into the left side of the trunk. (there is a door there and a mounting spot for the CD changer). You will just need to buy a compatible changer (panasonic is the maker). Clairparts (www.clairparts.com) sells them for 239 I think. Once that is done it is just plug and play.

autotoys.com OEM COMPATIBLE line
Their 5 disc type III compatible comes complete with adapter and ready to install into the factory changer location. The player is in fact the standard CDP 610 Panasonic which is the same unit Audi uses with some interface mods in a lame attempt to discourage aftermarket. It is $270 right now. I put one of these in a year ago and it works great.
You might also check at Clairparts.com. They sell the Audi changer at discount. Sometimes their price is as good as aftermarket units. It is $300 right now.

Re: 2001.5 CD changer options
I bought the OEM unit from Clair for my 2001.5 A4 Avant for $300 +shipping.
Took five minutes to install. (Had to stop and get beer out of fridge on way to car.) I believe that since it's an OEM item, the warranty will be that of the vehicle's, 4yr/50K miles. That is a pretty good reason to buy from Clair.
Don't forget to order the $2 screw kit. (no it doesn't contain KY.)
I put my standard six discs in the back and use the in dash unit when I want to listen to something different.
Right now that happens to be "Haunted" by Poe.
Gotta give that disc a listen.
You might save a couple of bucks on an aftermarket unit, but considering adapters, installation and warranty just go with the OEM unit. You're probably not going to be able to hear any significant differences with the factory stereo anyway...
