Anyone out there ever carry a 17ft aluminum Grumman canoe on the A4 Avant? I would like to but not sure it it is too large. Also, any good recommendations on racks for the canoe?

is the more appropriate response.
how far would you have to haul it? down the road to the lake is a bit different than 600 miles.
what's it weigh?

We just want to go around the county to forest preserve lakes. 600 miles is out of the question. We cannot fit our camping gear in this car. We take my husband's vette and pull a motorcycle cargo trailer with camping gear. NOTE: The corvette does not haul the canoe either. Maybe I should just trade for a Toureg.

Actually, I forgot, first we have to pick it up at my parent's house in NC and drive it back to Chicago. That is a 16 hour trip!!!

went off-roading with one last week and it was surprisingly capable, so it'll get you to almost any destination possible, and will likely do it with a 17' canoe atop it.
i'm sure with the right fastening, you'll be able to take the canoe around the county on the A4

not sure if the factory avant racks are up for the challenge though. I've heard of Mtn bike causing enough drag to pull factory racks off the roof of SUVs.

Said they were nothing but one lump of problems. He said he would not touch them with a 10 foot pole, including the R32.
