Dealer told me today that base price increase came in this morning: $550.00. They also told me that the option prices did not come in yet, and had not heard of that metalic paint would be an extra $400 as was posted in this forum the other day.

Just got word for my 2001 order.
Invoice price is 21,770 for a 1.8T sedan. 2000 invoice was 21,356, so the difference is 414.
Prices for the options I'm getting (quattro, bose, sport) are unchanged.
BUT, Silver metallic paint went up 400.
So the total new damage is 814, for me. Plus your markup and taxes, of course.
While I'm tempted to be annoyed at the increase, the fact is that the 2001 car is faster and has a longer warranty. Something for something.

So, the actual base increase is somewhere between $150 and $280 (depending on which numbers posted in this thread prove accurate).
Not sure how many of the colors are considered "metallic." If the pearl effect are all metallics, then the charge covers so many of the colors (the pearls and the metallics together are most of the colors) that this paint charge is equivalent to an increase in the base. But if only the Silver, Melange, Jaspis Green (possibly discontinued) and Pelican Blue are metallics, then there are other good colors that you can save money on.
Pelican Blue was already a "cool shade" which cost more. As a metallic, will it now be hit with two premium charges?

If production started May 1 and someone ordered a 2001 metallic early that was scheduled for early May production, how fair is it to tell them now that they will have to pay extra for it? Unless production start was delayed and they have the chance to modify their order.

Lure customers with a small increase in the base price, but make up for the small increase w/ extra charges for popular paint combinations... ![Frown](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Any word on changes w/ other aspects of the vehicle? any minor styling/feature changes other than the major ones?
Also, can anyone fax me a copy of the pricing once they get it?
thanks!

Though personally I think I prefer the non-sport wheel; it seems like it has 4 places you can rest your hands where the sport wheel only has 2.
But I ordered the sport wheel for my 2000 since I'm getting the tip (with no sport package).
Assuming, though, that for 2001 the sport wheel is no longer a separately orderable option, it either means it is ALWAYS automatically included now, or is only available with the tiptronic and/or sport package.
If the former, then another $141 of the base increase is theoretically the cost of the sport wheel. Though, why would the sport wheel actually cost Audi more? Is it made of a different material? I thought both wheels were leather wrapped. Seems like maybe the $141 cost was just to cover the cost of the administration of the option feature, to cover the cost of documenting the option, printing it up in the brochures, etc. In which case, if it became the ONLY wheel available, Audi actually saves money.
If the latter (only available with tip and/or sport), it means manual non-sport drivers might be unable to get this wheel even if they want it, and the tiptronic price might have gone up.
