Does anyone know whether the 2001 sport seats come with adjustable lumbar support as someone said the base seats do?

Also, is the upholstery pattern and fabric the same on the sport seats as on the standard seats? Specifically I am likely to purchase Opal Gray fabric interior on a 1.8T. (Wish I could get it with Ebony Pearl paint though .... will have to settle for Santorin.)

Yes, the sport seats on the 1.8T has always come with an adjustable lumbar support. IN the early years (like my '97), it was adjusted manually via a **** which you turned to increase or decrease the lumbar.
