Default 2001 Turbo vs. 2000 Turbo

I know that the 2001 1.8T is up about 20 hp and 10lb/ft torque from the previous iteration. Did Audi just change the ECU programming, or were there other changes (like exhaust)?

Anyone know the acceleration numbers of the 2001 as compared to the previous ones? Never having driven an older one, I am curious as to how this performance increase translates in real world driving situations.

If I chip my 2001, will I get any more performance than I would have if I had the older model?

Default APR's numbers say that you get about 7 more hp chipping your 2001...

200 hp for a 2000
207 hp for a 2001

http://www.goapr.com</a

Default changes....

The compression was lowered by reducing stroke.

The boost level was raised from about .5 bar to .7 bar

To offset the lower torque due to lower compression and stroke, VVT of some kind was added.

The reduction of compression helped the car now meet ULEV standards.

The change in boost being the main reason for the power increase is also why even though the stock engine may be 20 hp stronger, both in chipped form are identical. The delta from stock to chipped form is greater in the older engine, but 1 bar is 1 bar. The lower compression may allow for a tuner to increase the boost levels for the 2001+'s, but then you get into issue about the limits of the K03, CMH aside of course.

Are you sure about the VVT?

Default To be perfectly honest, no. But it's not like Audi doesn't have or used the technology, as it's use

and not listed in the specifications there either.

Default If you reduce the stroke...

You reduce the displacement. Plus it would require changes to the crankshaft and the rods.
If they were after a reduction in compression, it would be with a piston change.

If the displacement is the same, I seriously doubt they've changed the stroke.

Note, though, that changing the rod length doesn't change the stroke; the stroke is determined by the crankshaft geometry. Playing with the connecting rod length will alter the compression ratio without affecting the stroke.

My understanding was exhaust valves only. Perhaps for internal EGR?
