Default 205/55/16 vs 215/50/16 tires - anyone w/ the former?

I need new tires and don't know if I should go w/ the original size, or go little wider/lower...
The difference in overall diameter is pretty much negligible...

The 2 choices are 205/55-16 or 225/50-16. 215's will not work, smaller diameter.

I went with 225/50 16s. They look better, and handle a little better.

The difference in diameter is .42"... Is that not acceptable?

Default That's actually a fair amount...

You can do the math and figure the impact on your instrumented speed and all that. You're better off getting as close to the stock rolling diameter as possible.

Default I've got 225/50R16 on the stock 16" sport rims...

I did notice the car has more of a tendancy to "track" over bumps/grooves, but the benefit of the wider tire is worth it IMO.

The tires look "poochy" on the rims. It does offer a little more rim protection against curb rash though.

Default It works out to 2mph difference at 60mph. I guess that's not too bad. But that depends

on how accurate you want to be

Default I'm running 225/50-16 tires on my stock 16" rims. I'm glad I made the change.

They have a bit more grip than the stock size and the slightly lower profile looks great w/ my lowered suspension. Overall, I'm happy w/ the tires.
