225/50 vs 205/55 - Kris Hansen?
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/40532/tires-dunlopvsstock3.jpg"></center><p>
Looking to replace set of 205/55 16's right now on a non-sport set-up (but I have aftermarket MMI's which are set out more than OEM). In the FAQ's I noticed quite a few postings which puts my mind at ease that it's do-able.
Then I found this pic comparing what I have to what I want, and there looks to be a huge difference. In the FAQ's Kris said he had them both and there was hardly a difference (Kris is like a GOD here and he's hardly been wrong to me!).
The pic states the 2 are on OEM Jetta wheels (older). So the smaller one is 205/55r16, and the other is 225/50. I'm concerned how much extra 'sidewall roll' this pic shows. I think my rim's are 7" though.
IF this is the difference, I'm not interested in that much size increase. Any comments?
thanks
Jason

tire brands will make a difference too.
from what i know, thru personal experience, pirelli's and michellin's run narrower than some other tire brands. 225/40 pirelli is slightly narrower than a same sized falken.

Re:was there a big diff, Christian?
since you went through a few of these set-ups?
i remember extensively playing with diff. widths back in my ford ranger days...there were times i went 1 size too wide and it handled worse than before.
but i agree it'll look better (well as good as it can look for 16s)

Don't be hatin', my fav 16" size is 205/60-16. Cheap, wide selection and good ride. If your roads...
are bad like mine and lots of RR tracks...205/60-16 are great on non-sport. I also had 215/55-16s from my B6 on my B5 Avant V6 n/s. Here is it with the 215s. Really, 205/60s are ideal. Wider is not better, imo. Best advantage to taller, but not heavy tires is longer CA life. (ducks for cover)

Yes, I could tell a significant difference in handling.
20mm wider tires on each tire does make a big difference. By going to 225, you are going with a 10% wider tire, and that is enough to feel the difference.
