Default 30v valve cover gasket replacement...

Anyone got an estimate on how long it'll take me to replace my valve cover gaskets? I swapped my spark plugs last weekend, and there was 1/4" of oil in each spark plug socket that had leaked down from the valve cover gaskets. Real pain in the @ss, as the oil, of course, fell into the cylinders when I pulled the plugs, and I had to burn it off.

Anyways, I need to replace gaskets on both sides, and I'm wondering how long I should reserve for the job.

Default how do you burn the oil off?

just run the engine as normal or is there something special?

happened to me few weeks ago; swapped the gasket but wasn't sure about the oil.

Default When I did my wife's car spark plugs, I had the same issue

I just let it drain out and smoke it out.

Default a comment.....

I figure on about 1/2 a morning by the time I clean, degrease, and dry off the covers. Ours are slighty easier since I keep the covers off(in pic).Use a some kerosene to soak the covers in(remove coking/oil/grease) , then hit them with brake clean. You might consider changing out the pcv and suction valve in there. Your probably getting higher then appropriate crankcase pressures, especially at the top end.

Take a good look at the cam adjuster seals while you're at it.

Default I'll be doing driver's side soon. Do they just pop in? does Bentley have cover torque specs?

I know in some applications the covers need special sealant paste.
