Default 3m tape on m3 lip spoiler

for those of you who have put the m3 type lip spoiler on, i have a question. the 3m tape provided is exactly as wide as the base of the lip spoiler. should i trim it at all, or is it better to have it take up the entire base of the spoiler?
also, i think i want to shorten the overall length of it. do you think there's any problem if there's an inch or two part on each end of hte lip spoiler where there is no tape to hold it down?

Default well, mine covered the whole base of the spoiler

i recommand you cover the whole base. cause stuff can get stuck in between the gaps.

Most of these spoilers have a slight recess in the bottom. The tape should be trimmed to fit. That way it sits as flush as possible and you will not be able to see the tape if you look where the spoiler meets the body.

Default my doesn't have a recess in the bottom. :(

it's one of the Ebay copies. i had to sand the trim, too, to get rid of some of the molding marks. then again, it was only $40 or something like that.

Default Bought mine on Ebay also mine had recess like OEM BMW.

I think these were copied straight from an original.Mine looks just like the one in the tech articles and needed very little prep.It was painted yesterday and I put it on today.

Default nice. i'm prepping mine up tonight.

sanded it a little to get everything nice and smooth. put the 3m tape on the base and trimmed it. put masking tape on top of the 3m tape.

tomorrow, i will prime and sand the whole thing. hopefully, i will have time to paint and clearcoat it, too. but, i'm going to take my time with it. this is my first time painting something. i'm doing my RS4 grill trim at the same time, too. wish me luck!
