Default 4-point seat belts may become standard equipment in a few years.

It was time someone took the initiative to see if consumer would accept these far superior 4-point belts. I had been wondering why no manufacturer had bothered with it yet, but I guess cost and possible complaints about discomfort could be reason enough.

http://edmunds.yellowbrix.com/pages/edmunds/Story.nsp?story_id=22893264&ID=edmunds</a

Default Good idea...

I don't find my harnesses to be uncomfortable, and they require the driver to be in a more upright position, which I find helps keep me more alert. It's very hard to slouch forward or to drive with the seat back reclined a lot. Glad to see someone is finally exploring the option

Default The telling quote is at the end...

"No word, however, on how Volvo and Ford will get people to actually use their seat belts, especially in the noncompliant 16-29 age group. A recent study by the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute says that age group generally shows the lowest belt use rate."

As someone said yesterday in our discussion about tire pressure monitors, "We're saving the dumb ones."

From the minute I turned 15 and began driving I have always made sure that everyone in my car wears their safety belt. Perhaps it's not an accident that the largest non-compliant group lines up nicely with the "breeding age" group?
