400chp still the consensus for most power stock internals can handle?

does it vary between engine (AEB, ATW, AWM)?
thinking full 2871R will hit 400chp if done right... but don't want to destroy my motor
a well-respected tuner suggested not going much over 350chp if i want to play it safe, which would leave me with a full 28rs setup
thoughts?

what is reliable? reliable for 10k miles, for 50k miles? I would say having AEB, you are in the best situation. At least you have pistons good for big power so long as you just upgrade your rods. Forged rods can be had for fairly cheap.
No matter what you do, it's smartest to do a compression and leak down test on your motor before doing a big turbo upgrade.

i've never ventured into the internals of a motor -- but that's about the only thing i haven't done on a car...
how would replacing rods compare to, say, a timing belt & turbo replacement in terms of difficulty & time consumption... can it be done in a day? a weekend?

I would prepare to put a new motor in it if you are going to bolt up the 71R. Like Ray said it will blow its just a matter of in how many miles. As for the rods get Scat they are ~$350 for a set and strong either way keep an ear out for detonation. I personally wouldnt put something that big on stock internals.

This is not easy and is not something to be rushed. I know..I've done it.
List of parts.
Crank bolts (main bolts x10)
head gasket
oil pan gasket
oil pump (to be safe)
timing belt kit (usually has everything you need)
valve cover gasket
crank bearings (main bearings)
rod bearings
exhaust and intake manifold gaskets
Probably some other small things I forgot...but thats a majority of the list.

And it cranked Tuesday morning at 4am first try. This doesnt account for the motor build time which is about 3-4hrs also not counting the machine shop time if your doing it right.
