thanks everyone. so a 225 is almost an inch more in width too but
will a tire shop give me a hard time mounting them because they are not the spec'd tire for the rim/car?

It will work fine. I have 225/50/16 on the 10 spoke oem sport wheels and
had them on a set of wheels I recently sold. One set up for winter, one was for spring, summer, fall. Both wheels are 16x7.
