Scenario 1.
You try to prove to insurance company its worth more.
They being stingy bastards they are, say "ok, you're
right it is worth more, it's worth $4,500 but still not worth it
for us to fix oh and if you want to buy it we'll let it go for
$3,500.
Scenario 2.
You actually use the money the gave you along with some
of your own hard earned scratch to fix it. Only to find out
it will never drive the same, the panels no longer line up.
The paint doesn't really match it now has a weird sound
and guess what, the frame may be bent after all.

The rims & tires alone are probably worth a decent amount, not counting any other mods you have.
You may put up on ebay/classifieds whatever you can part out easy/quick without too much disassembly and then sell the carcass to a junk yard. Junk yards won't give you anything for it anyway.... $500 to $1000 at best in the state it's in.

So $6800 for that... I believe it.
Get your company involved, they can sometimes wrestle more money out of the other side. Then again I have USAA, who has real customer service... something more insurers don't.
$1500 buy back aint bad, if the motor is good and such and you have the room, you can yank more than $1500 worth of ebay stuff and still sell the rest of the car off for recycling.
