You might also find running a 7x17 would allow a bit more sidewall flex to soften the ride a bit.

you're right, never noticed that

but I think it has something to do with the fact that for a tire, width is more important than diameter, and vice versa for a wheel.

It also appeared to me that there is nothing the OEMs can not do

vs. a 17" upgrade. I thought about doing it for a long time, there was so little difference. I thought I was nuts, because on all previous mods I liked the +1 sizing and the consensus was that 17 is great. At least you are not alone and I know I am not nuts. Eventually I did go with the 17s, and I like them, especially the looks.
