96 A4 low fuel causing engine warning?
Hi,
I have a 96 A4 and my engine warning light lit up on Friday. I took it to the dealer today and they said that driving the car with low fuel caused it. They reset the warning light and charged me for the exam due to "driver negligence". 3 hours later the light came on again (1/2 tank of funel in the car). I just bought the car a couple of months ago from the dealer (Audi Assured 2 year warranty) and would like to know if any of you are aware of having a low fuel level being the cause of the warning.
Note - I usually drive the car down to an eigth of a tank. I have only had the fuel warning light come on once while I have driven the car and I filled up the tank almost immediately.
Thanks,
Jason

Do you mean Check Engine Light?
I've not heard of the check engine light coming on with low fuel. (though running out of fuel may cause this... but I'm not sure.) Either way, the dealership should have checked ALL the error codes to determine what the fault is.
Try tightening your gas filler cap. If it's not tight, the Check Engine Light (CEL) will come on.
You should also check for other Audiworld forum members in your area with a VAG tool. They can check codes for you and reset the CEL indicator for you as well.
