is the wiring conversion necessary when going from '97 tail lights to the '98 version?

I know the 99.5+ are preferable, but I can get some '98s for free. I just want to get rid of that ugly orange.

well I decided to swap one out and see what happened. I popped his 98's in mine, and my 97's in his, and they both work with no problems. no wiring conversion required

hope this helps if anyone else tries to do the same thing.

yeah no problems at all. everything works just like they did before the swap.

so the bulb trays are the same?

no the bulb trays are different, but I swapped out the entire assembly, including the bulb trays.
