Default 97 A4 2.8 v6 12valve unable to connect ODB II

When I took my car to get an inspection my ODB II connection would not work. i noticed that my Odometer is not lit anymore but it still shows the mileage if I look closely with a light. I checked all the fuses that I know of but still no luck with getting it to connect.

Has anyone ever ran into this problem?

The most common failure is the ABS module, it's not uncommon for a failure to block the OBDII connection. Try unplugging the module under the hood.

Any of the modules in the car could be locking you out, cluster is definitely possible.
