Default 97 a4 having trouble with radio. Yellow wire no current

Hi was working on my car
my a4 came with Factory Concert radio which i swapped for aftermarket radio and only the front speakers worked . While the rear are power speakers using factory amp built in to the left side speaker. after messing around with the connector the radio stoped working . after pulling the radio out and check all wires and fuses and putting the radio on dc power supply the radio function but the red power wire has current while the yellow battery wire had no current. seems either the wire has no current due to the rear speakers or something else was burned anyone seen this before? Any insight at this point will help me out greatly? Thanks

Default You might have blown a fuse on the fuse panel.

To use the rear speakers as they are now, you need to add a pair of male RCA plugs to the signal wires that go to the rear deck speakers, The Delta CC head unit had a yellow connector for that with 5 wires in it. White is remote turn on or as I call it trigger, both brown wires are ground and blue/red is right signal, blue/green is left signal.

Yellow is memory/accessory power. Check the fuses in the panel, If you shorted that wire out, you probably blew a fuse.

The rear speakers have their own power and I doubt that they could cause the problem you are experiencing.

Worst come to worst, just add another wire under the dash, remove the driver side knee bolster 4 8mm hex screws, Check the positive terminals under there and see which one always has power, use that as the connection for the accessory power to the head unit.

Default Where did you have it installed????

I just used the original wiring and mine work as they are meant to. They are a component style pair, the tweeter no doubt has a capacitor in line to act as a basic crossover network. The midbass driver. The shop might not have noticed them or the installer was a lazy thug and just decided you wouldnt notice the difference or would be too lazy to complain.

You might pull off your door panel and check the wiring in there. The speakers are attached to the door panel not the actual door. If the bastards only wired in one of the drivers, then Ya I can probably check mine and tell you what goes to what in order to make the tweeters work again.

This is why I dont trust car stereo installers. Odds are they really dont know what they are doing. If they do, they are a rare find. Its frightening that I know more than most of them, and I've only been doing this for a few years now for myself and my friends. When I was 17 I applied for a job at Circuit city as an installer, I passed their job test with flying colors and they were going to hire me but I didnt like the hours so I didnt take it.

I am not sure of the exact wiring diagram but the two drivers should be wired together either in series or parallel. It depends on what the impedance of the individual drivers are. The factory tweeters are blaupunkt and the rest of the drivers are Nokia.

When I do an installation I do it the right way, I heat shrink my connections, most stereo shops will just use some PVC electrical tape and twist the wires together, GHETTO. Sorry thats not good enough for me, I solder mine together and then heat shrink them.

and i bought the deck from a place called "Futureshop" .. yeah, they really didn't know what they were doing i could tell but installation was included with the purchase of the unit. ok.. i'll take the panel out and see if they were attached.. I knew the lil speakers weren't working but i never went back and complained. Thanks Phil. I wish i live around your area.. =)

Default Very welcome... If you were round here I'd be glad to check it out for you.

I cant put enough emphasis on how handy it is to know how to do your own car audio installations. You will save money and not have to worry if it is gonna stop working and if it does, how it can be fixed. After doing plenty of installations, I stick by my solder & shrink tube concept, its reliable, durable and permanent. Easy... not really but nothing is easy on an audi. But you knew that already.

Default Re: You might have blown a fuse on the fuse panel.

I checked the fuse box and the 20amp fuse looked good nothing fried but when i ran jumper wire from the + positive red lead to the yellow accessory wire on the harness the radio turned on but i'm guessing the harness i have from soche might not be the right one cause i have couple of those small connectors the yellow ones that you mention. is there place where i can actually get the right wireharness for this car.
