Default 97 AEB 1.8T idle problem

Ive got a problem that is triggering P0103 Mass Air Flow Circ High Input but here is what occurs - car starts and idles for about 30-45 seconds, then idle drops like Ignition or Fuel cutoff, also runs rich at idle. Cleaned the MAF but no improvement. Dont have a vag com. Is it worth it to replace the MAF?

used to get throttle switch code, lean code all before MAF was cleaned. no longer get those codes.

How does it run with the MAF disconnected? If better, then MAF or wiring/connectors are defective.
