Default 98.5 2.8q 5 speed.. rough idle

ive noticed latley that my car doenst idle as smooth as when i got it about 5months ago. it seemed to get a little more rougher when i had the steering rack replaced. i figured they pulled the battery power lead off and the ECU needed time to readjust itself. it didn seem to get that much better. and now that it is gettin colder at night and for that matter all through the day it is gettin really bad. it idles at around 800rpm and than drops down to about 650rpm every now and than. i did use GAS TREATMENT by some oil company, but that didn seem to help either. im guessin its time for some new spark plugs and wires, or maybe an audi tune-up. just looking for some reasons, and possible fixes. its almost to 117k. tia. josh

Default spark plugs or maybe moisture inthe ignition control amplifier

which doesnt actually amplify anything iirc but is actually a switch. tho if it was that youd have a CEL flashing or steady.

Default Possible fixes...

Its probably a good idea to change out the plugs & wires. Then, clean out the throttle body and re-adapt it(VAG-Com helps for this). Oh yes, a fuel filter and techron will go a ways to help. You may want to check the underside of your motor mounts for a purple or blackish dried liquid. If you see this then , its time to replace the mounts. When they are bad, they transfer "alot" of vibration into the car. Good luck.

hay you should check with the dealer but ! i think throtle bodys are now a recall you could probably get it fixed cleaned and such for free for a erratic idle. just somethign i heard check to see if theres a avalible recall for ya but it might just be for drive by wire cars
