The cat converter pulled away from the turbine housing last night. I'd not paid much attention to it up until this point, so I'm not sure if there was a ring clamp holding it on, if it was pressed in, etc.
A picture can be seen at:

Can anyone shed some light on what I'm looking at as far as repair?
Thanks!

The cat flange separated. It's a press fit...so it's obvious why it comes apart. You can have a muffler shop weld it back together. If they can do it while it's on the car, it should be cheap. If they have to remove the cat, it's going to be a few hours of labor to remove and reinstall the cat.

I had the cat seperation at the flange, just at the back of the turbo where they meet..typical place. The older 1.8T cat had only an inside weld and after they realized the faillure instead of a recall they made sure that the newer 1.8T cat has inside and outside welds at that junction. So, Circle Audi of Long Beach, California decided to tell me it is not a warranty issue when my car was stuck a block away from them and I had it towed to them for this problem. I trusted them and paid $400+ to have the fricken cat flange welded back on. It was clearly a defect issue, my car had less than 40K at the time and was 3.5 years old. My car has the original turbo, no alterations other than a chip engine wise. Now, AofA tucks tail and hides behind the dealer on the issue. Both should be sued for violating a federal emissions law. NEVER, NEVER go to CIRCLE IMPORTS, LONG BEACH!!! >=-/

Its welded, but on the inside. Obviously not very well, however.
Mine failed a while ago, so I took it off myself, took about 1/2 hr. You need a bunch of extensions and u-joints for it, though. I took it down to an exhaust shop and got it welded back together for $20.
Make sure you get it aligned correctly, it has to be lined up just right to make the rest of the exhaust hang correctly.
