'98 A4 won't start, holding down accelerator doesn't work

Washed the car yesterday. I backed it out without power, started it up to get it into the garage; it hadn't been driven all day and was running for maybe 30 seconds. After shutting down there was a very strong smell of fuel in the air. Temp outside at the time was about 60F.
Temp right now is 70F. It cranks, and stutters very lightly as though it thinks it MIGHT want to start (it's not like it's almost catching). So I tried to start normally 3 times - about 1 minute apart. No go.
Read the archives and they said engine is probably flooded, that I need to hold the accelerator pedal all the way down and crank for 10 seconds. So I did that twice, and it still will not start - no difference in sound when pedal is all the way down.
Any other ideas?

I read that in the archives as well, so I've had the cap off for 15 minutes, just tried to start with cap off and with gas pedal down all the way, still won't start.

I would think with it being around 50F in the garage and night that 36 hours between moving the car into the garage and now would allow any fuel to evaporate, no?
