Default What kinds of sounds is it making? Does it sound like there is any spark at all?

Your plugs could be horribly wet with gas.. Maybe just let it sit for a little while. If you have a battery charger, it might be a good idea to hook it up, to keep the battery fresh.

Default Sounds like a coil or other ignition related component...

Sounds like fuel is getting to chamber, but nothing will ignite it.

Also, my $.02, I wouldn't crank the starter for more than 10 seconds at a time.

Oh yeah, it sounds like there's spark. It's not a consistent sound like it's just cranking and nothing is happening. Something is happening, just not a lot. It's hard to describe.

There is a slight sound like it wants to catch, but it's not convincing. Close to 6-8 seconds the cranking speeds up slightly, which is just below the "line" of sounding convincing.

I'll try a couple more times, and if that doesn't work I may bring the Powerbook down to the garage and see if I can record it while I try to start it.

Default When it happen to my wife's car...

it took a scary amount of cranking to get it started. 15-30 seconds at a time (instructions given by dealer). The car started after approx. 10-15 cycles. Check the link to the TSB, on the bottom of page three. I think this is a bull$hit TSB but your only other alternative is to flatbed it to your dealer.

TSB (.PDF)

Default when mine had this problem

the only way I could get it moving was to pump the pedal a few times while cranking.

Note, EVERY audi tech I talked to said not to do it, that there was no need, but it was the only way the car would move.

It ended up being a coolant sensor.

Keep trying... Keep your foot to the floor.. you need to get lots of air in there to dry the plugs..

Default Did you detail your engine while washing the car yesterday?

If you got under there, open it back up and see if anything's loose or cracked. Check all electrical connectors, etc.
