Hi guys,
I first searched the threads for my hard to start when hot issue and thought, yes, it looks like I need a new coolant temp sensor. Went out and bought one, replaced it and I still have an issue. I will try and explain the issue as best as possible. This is post installing the new sensor.
1. Car will mostly run cold. It takes a long time for the temp guage to move off the 60 degree mark.
2. If I stop the car and let it sit, then start, temp gauge may move up to 75 degree mark. Once I drive and depending on weather it will move up to 90, or go back down to 60.
3. If it does move to 90 and I switch it off, leave it for 5 or so minutes, It will take at least 5secs of cranking before it starts again.
4. If the temp gauge shows cold, it will start on first crank.
5. If the temp gauge is sitting on 90 degrees and its hot outside it will sometimes take over 15 secs to start and will idle very rough or just die.
6. If I pump the accelerator while cranking when point 5 occurs it will start a little quicker.
7. I have heard others talk about fuctuating temp gauges. Mine fluctuates but its a slow process, it doesnt jump around quickly.
The CTS I bought does not match the part number of the one I replaced. However the pins line up exactly. Part number originally on the car was 078919501B and I replaced with 059919501A. Looks exactly the same.
I am hoping I just bought a faulty sensor because the symptons I described above happened pre-install of new CTS as well. So replacing hasnt made any change. Or does anyone have an idea of there is something else that could be the culprit. Pic of what my sensor looks like. Have I replaced the wrong one?

Hopefully not. I heard I have to take the timing belt off to replace it. Sounds like a difficult job. In the old days the thermostat just sat right on top, two bolts, some gasket glue is all you needed to replace.
Hopefully I can get it scanned over the weekend.
