I have a 99 A4 with 230,000 kms. It has sat during the winter only being started rarely. The battery is dead. I started it today and it was having trouble idling. If I hold the accelerator down slightly it will idle, but the idle increases and decreases. It took it for a short run and it has no power. The gas tank is 3/4 full, but the gas has been sitting all winter. I know I should be shot for neglecting the car as I have...but in the meantime I wonder if anyone can offer any suggestions respecting the idling and lack of power problems. Thanks for any help you can offer.

You need to do a throttle body alignment. Sometimes the key method works, otherwise you have to force it with VAG-COM.

Check all your hoses. Maybe one is clogged or broken. Check for animals in there lol.

Thanks for the info..I am embarassed to say I don't know quite what you mean by either the "key" method or forcing it with VAG-COM. Can you indulge me with a bit more information on these recommended fixes...Thanks

The key method is turning your key on but dont start the car for 3 min I believe while is does the alignment of the throttle body. You can hear it. If it's doing it then you need use a laptop with vagcom (diagnostic sofrware) to perform it.
