99 A4 Quattro 2.8 jerked on highway & all gear light lit up
Just had my headlight switch & ignition switch replaced. Going up hill the car bucks a couple of times, 2 hours later slowed at construction sight and it jerked once and all gear cluster lights up. Get to town and it stalls at a traffic light. Starts again but barely moves.
It's in the garage now and they are saying fuel pump, relay and filter....$800. I have my doubts.
Suggestions?

Does it throw any codes? if so, what codes are showing?
When all gears light up, your transmission goes into limp mode.
It's possible your fuel pump went out. Can you get a second opinion, or is it at the shop?

lol i like how they want to replace the fuel pump AND the Relay.....why....how on earth could both of them magically fail at the same time, especially when the car still runs. When the gear indicators light up its got a major transmission fault code and is in limp mode, will start off in 4th gear. So SUPER slow slow slow untill your going fast, and no shifting.
They need to read transmission codes and see what happend. if the converter stayed locked when its not suppose to, it may have caused it to stall at the light as in a manual trans car without pushing in the clutch.

Can codes be read after they repair?
They said the mechanic took a test drive and it is working fine BUT he noticed some other things.
!. front wheel bearings
2. rear transmission leak
3. rear brakes.
For a total of $1,150. He is pushy for me to get work done, saying he can't guarantee I'll make it home.
I'll pick car up tomorrow, get a second opinion and go from there.
Thanks for your comments
