Whenever I fuel up (or even open my gas tank) I have a hard time restarting the car. I have to hold down the gas until it catches and then rev the rpms for 30 seconds or so so it wont die. Also the fuel gauge will act erratically reading anywhere from empty to the actual amount (full, 3/4, or 1/2).

This has been going on for a year now and finally the other night it died on me while driving. No luck getting it started.

I have read a lot of posts on the same problem but no updates on what it was (MAF, O2 sensor, Evap Purge valve, Vacuum leak). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I could be a sensor, but it could also be the fuel pump. Does anything show up on the trip computer? You may have to get codes read. Sorry I can't be of anymore help.

IceGT said fuel pump, and I think your problem may be at the fuel pump connector. There are four wire, two for the pump, and two for the fuel level sender. If that connector was loose or defective somehow, you would have problems with the fuel pressure and the fuel gauge. Try cleaning the contacts with contact cleaner or WD-40 and reinstall the connector. If that doesn't work, let us know because there are further tests you can do. I know, this last Saturday I changed the fuel pump, which wore out at 187K.
