I have a 99 man T1.8. I find the power delivery sometimes hesitates slightly usually just before or just after an upchange. Also the engine revs flare 500rpm or so when you dip the clutch on upchange. I am told by the dealer the first is a consequence of the electronic throttle, the second is due to the turbo still spinning. Is this normal?
Also the clutch has a slight vibration or gritty feel which can be felt through the pedal when you depress it. It is slight but extremely annoying. Any comments or ideas or what it could be?
Otherwise the car is great.
Graham Old
Australia

Default The "flare" seems normal...

mine does it less now that it is chipped though. As to the gritty feel I think that will smooth out. Mine also did that, as did the 5000TQ (might be a 200 to you) after I changed the clutch. I think the new parts need to bed in. Good luck with it, and have fun.

Thanks for your comments. I'll see how it is in three months or so before I start hassling the dealer. What chip did you use? This might the final incentive I need to get it chipped!
Incidentally does your car have an electronic throttle. If so, does the chip make any difference to the occasional hesitation under acceleration (to me, it feels like someone overriding your commands!).
Does anyone else get this feeling with the A4 electronic throttle. I have read some similar comments in a recent Wheels test of the TT (delay in acceleration after gearchange) which makes me think it is inherent to the design. The 98 A4T demo I drove with a mechanical throttle didn't do it.
Any comments would be most welcome.
Regards,
Graham Old
Australia
