Transmission codes are not part of OBDII so you are wrong
Buy/ borrow a VAG.com and recode the ECU for manual transmission.

It's the 4th digit in a 5 digit string.
First two digits
06-US
Next digit
1-FWD no traction control
2-FWD with traction control
3-AWD no traction control
4-AWD with traction control
Next Digit
0-Manual trans
5-Automatic
Next Digit
1-Audi A4 or Vw Passat.

Required special tools and test equipment
VAG1551 or VAG1552 Scan Tool (ST) with VAG1551/3 adapter cable
VAG1598/22 test box
VW1594 connector test kit
Wiring diagrams
Hope this helps!

Most folks doing maintenance on their own cars won't have or need all that factory test equipment to recode the ECU the way AudiMick explained. A diagnostic scan cable, and a computer with licenced VAG-COM does it.

If one is going to work on their own car this is a must and a cheap tool.
If you post in the local forums either here on AW or the other audi forums you will probably find someone local with a VAG-COM
