Default 99 audi on craigslist

first timer to the audis. usually I do a bunch of research before buying a car but this popped up on craigslist http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/...e/photo1-1.png

and I need a daily driver. my jeep just isn't streetable. I have the cash but have never handed that much money to a stranger before and hoped he doesn't screw me. it's not smogged. he's worried about the cats and 02's. the rest is in the ad.

I am not new to the car world. I wrench and do body work and understand it'll probably need some parts. what do you guys think

I checked the 'ol consumer guide to auto and liked the overall review
http://consumerguideauto.howstuffwor...-audi-a4-6.htm

I would spend more time reading but he (of course) has "another guy" interested in buying it and I told him I would come look at it tomorrow

Your link just takes us to a picture of a Jeep. Not much to go on there.

Sounds like its worth test driving. $2K isn't a lot to risk anyway. See if you can get him to reveal all the "mechanical issues".

he agreed to take it and have it smogged today before I go look at it. I need something semi-quick and easy to take me to work. if nothing about the ad jumps out at you guys I'll probably swoop it. and I'll ask him about the mech issues

for the mechanical issues. he confirmed that it's just the ABS module and the cv boot "clicking."

ok so he brought up some more issues. he said he replaced a vacuum hose and the check engine light turned off and "idk it's weird the low idle it had last week just went away." he's going to smog it and raise the price to $2500 sounds fishy I think I'm out. thanks for the replies

Haha! Reading the post was like looking at my own car! Not a bad deal for 2 grand. Can you take it to your own mechanic, get a second opinion? I bought mine from a repair/sales place, but went to another mechanic and told him give me the worst possible news. A second opinion in person never hurt. They are great daily drivers if taken care of. Post pics if you get her!
