My old B5 A4 1.8T had over 236k miles on it before the tip trans failed.

If it had a 5 spd it would still probably be rockin.

Change the oil and keep up with timing belt intervals and they will last a long time.

My B5 had 157k before the lower end gave way because of sludge blocked the oil journals. replaced with a factory 1.8. Bottom line, use synthetic!!!
