I have a friend who is the lead mechanic at a local Subaru dealership. I asked him recently what he thinks of the WRX. He said he has driven a few of them, and he wasn't that impressed. They weren't as fast as he thought they would be.
I would expect to have trouble keeping up in my car with only chip and exhaust, but I would be surprised if a WRX could keep up with a Stage 3 without some mods. And WRX transmissions are not known to take significant power increases without having to beef up the internals...

While I agree these 2 cars are in different classes it's certainly not "embarrassing" to compare Sub's and Audi's. That's the snobby type of attitude reserved for folks that look down on others. No need for it here.

My opinion.
I have nothing against the WRX but if you want to compare apples and oranges then you should buy a loaded civic for $14,000 and turbocharge it. Now your fast and you saved money as well.
Forget the AWD for either car. Now example BMW or Accord? Is that fair?
If you still want to compare the two then you bought the wrong car.
I Love my A4 for its refined and luxurious features and thanks to german engineering it happens to hold its own, very well too.

At $25k, that is the going price for a 1.8TQ. Looks a lot better and doesn't look cheap!

A4 vs WRX:
- Both are all-wheel drive (as long as you purchase Quattro option) [Mustang is rear-wheel drive]
- Both are turbo-charged 4-cylinders [Mustang is V6 or V8]
I could go on, but you get the idea. Granted, the WRX can't compare on luxury items or looks, but it's a hell of a bargain in an AWD performance sedan.
