Default A4 1.8T oil capacity

Just changed engine oil and Audi filter. Let engine oil drain for 30-45 minutes and refilled with exactly (measured) 3.5 qts. Did 10 minute test run and checked for leaks (none), and waited a few minutes for oil to drain into pan. Checked dipstick and found level to be above the 'full' mark and up to the upper 'kink/bend' in the dipstick! Checked the next morning, cold engine, same result. (car dead level both times). I thought revised levels called for 3.7 qts. with filter change? My concern is that my dipstick is inaccurate which would lead me to run with a lower oil capacity than I should. Anyone have any info on this situation? Thanks in advance.

Default You're right. It's supposed to be 3.7 qt.

TSB 17 99-02 gives the engine oil capacities. The A4 1.8T takes 3.7 qt with filter, 3.2 without. My dealer always does the changes. They came out over the full line the first time too. But I don't know how much they put in.

I'd trust the dipstick, but that is unsettling.

Default Re: A4 1.8T oil capacity (long)

Well I might have a similar problem on my 99.5 1.8T. At my 5K service I received my car back and the oil was about 1/8 - 1/4 inch above the full mark. I called the service advisor and was told that I shouldn't worry about it since the car was still burning a little oil. So I let it go. Well about a week ago I went back for my 10K service. When I got the car back, I stopped by the gas station to fill up and found that my car was overfilled by 3/4 - 1 inch. I called the service dept right away but they had already left. To make a long story short..... I didn't drive it until I got it back in service to have it fixed. At that time the service manager was out so I left a message for him to call me. I waited two + days, after he got back, but ended up calling him to discuss the issue because I hadn't heard from him. That is when I was told "I have never heard of that before at my shop. Are you sure your dipstick is reading correctly?"
I have to say I sure as hell hope I have not put 11K + miles on my car being 1+ quarts low on oil! I have not been driving it much since and have to "measure" it to see what is up. I'm not waiting till my next service to find out. I have to say that I'm pissed at the dealer right now because I feel the dealer should have done something either way. I mean if it was overfilled they should have caught it and if it wasn't overfilled they should have seen that the dipstick is off. They did NIETHER! I don't call that service. (Just venting! 8^ ) )

It should be 3.5L exactly, perhaps the turbo doesn't drain out completely.

It was 3.5 QUARTS, not liters.
