Default A4 1.8T quattro rear end noise

1999 a4 has had a rear end noise sounding like tire noise in the beginning. Now has gotten very loud especially at 40mph+. The noise nearly stops on a right hand turn, but gets very loud on left turn. Is this a right rear wheel bearing or other prob?

Default Re: wheel bearing.

Is it difficult to replace? Special tools needed? should one attempt or let a tech do it? Thanks

Default It'd be the pass side.

On right turns, he said his noise goes away. On right turns the weight is shifting to the driver's side, so the culprit would be the passenger side.
