A4 1.8T vs Volvo S40 1.9T
Has anyone with a bone stock a4 1.8T raced against a bone stock S40? Just curious which is faster. The S40 claims to have 160 Hp and we all now what the a4 has. With that said I would be curious which one has faster 0-60 times.

My friend has a bone stock Volvo S40 that I raced with my Stock A4. Both cars are automatic, my car with the exception of tiptronic. He won, based on the fact of my A4 being AWD and the volvo being 2 wheel drive.

I compared those very same cars before ordering my '00 A4. But never raced them.
I would 'assume'... the A4 2WD should be a tad faster because the car should be lighter. I would tend to believe that the Volvo's chassis should be heavier.
If you are looking to 'beef' up the car as well... then I would highly recommend the Audi simply because you will find far more racing features you could add than you would with Volvo. The average Volvo owner is 40+ years old with 3.5 kids... (just my opinion)...

Volvo stigma
I've heard (can't confirm) that Volvo has one of the highest accident rates for that size car...and the logic is that bad drivers tend to buy the safest cars, expecting to crash into things (part heresay, part opinion).

It is true! Ask any motorcyclist about Volvo's. As much as I wanted to try one out when I went shopping, just looking at a Volvo wagon sends a shiver up my spine.

The Volvo pulls good (more)
We were recently shopping for a new wagon and one of the cars that we drove was the Volvo V40 (wagon equivalent of the S40). The car exhibited pretty good performance and pulled strongly. I drove a Passat wagon with the 1.8T and Tip and the performance felt nowhere near that of the V40. I feel that the 1.8T/Tip setup is the only fair comparison given the fact that the 40-series is only available with an automatic for now. I wouldn't knock the 40-series Volvo, it was a nice car.
In researching the cars it looked like you had the option of chipping the 40-series engines as well.
