Default A4 1.8t won't idle please help?

My X reg A4 has decided following Christmas that it no longer wants to idle!

It starts fine and runs ok as long as the revs don't drop below 1000! At which point it stalls. I have been using it but it is driving me nuts ! I have read a couple of threads on here but they talk about PCV and MAS which unfortunately I have no idea what they are.

I can do most things on the car although I am not a mechanic or as mentioned above aware of the abbreviations!

Please can someone offer advise (in plain English if possible) on what I can do to cure this fault?

This is mainly a US site, X reg means nothing to most of the people here. Audi models vary widely worldwide.

Year Model engine etc if you need help.

OK you possibly have a DBW (drive by wire) AWM . Its marked on the head.
Do you have any check engine lights, if so you should scan the vehicle first because it will likely determine the cause.

It's possible you need to reset the throttle position sensor.Did you have a low or flat battery recently.

VAG.com is the best way to do a throttle body adaptation, you can also do it by turning the key to the ignition position for 30 seconds or so before starting the engine. It's kind of hit and miss that way.

Hi I took your advice today and tried the key trick which did seem to work cause the car intermittently idles but still have the same problem.

I do have the orange engine management signal on, on the dashboard.

I also connected my car to vagcom and reset the fault code but took note of it as below:

Address 01: Engine. Labels: Redirect Fail!
Controller: 4B0 906 018 R
Component: 1.8L R4/5VT 0003
Coding: 11001
Shop # : WSC 10001
VCID: 301393C3E33B
WAUZZZ8DZ1A035878 AUZ7Z0Y1504452

16486 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal Too Low
P0102 - 35 - 00 - -

Any ideas much appreciated???

Unplug the mass air flow sensor connector. It should be the only wire connector going to the air box.

If the car runs/idles better unplugged it's a pretty good chance your MAF is shot.

Try cleaning your MAF with a maf cleaner, and when you put everything back, make sure to pug the maf connector tightly.
