Default A4 Brake Dust Problems

Does anyone know of a way to stop the brake dust on the A4 1.8T Quattro. Just spent all day this past Sunday washing and waxing the wheels of my car. Found a lot of junk on the wheels that is brake dust just ground in there, I think the previous owner just gave up on the wheels after the first couple of months. Finally got the wheels clean, but after the weather man made a huge mistake with the weather (How do they predict a sunny day and 6 hours later it rains like crazy (New York Metro Area A4 owners should know what I am talking about), I noticed my wheels are dirty again. Just want it to last most then a couple of days. Any suggestions?
Signed,
Desperately Seeking Clean Wheels
Default Solution...

Get larger wheels that are easier to clean and wax. Also go with the Mintex Red-Box pads...
---Trey

Default Re: A4 Brake Dust Problems

I clean mine once a week using P21S. It's easy, and they look great, which lasts 2-4 days of driving. As the week progresses they get worse (of course), but it's time to clean them again before they're too bad. The P21S isn't as quick and easy as the Armorall I used on my VW (I actually have to wipe the wheels with a damp sponge), but also no where near as caustic. As long as you attend to them every week it's not bad at all. Also, if you wax them that should make life easier for you.
Regards,
Rodney
'99 A4 1.8tqms

Default Get Mintex!!! (more)

Changed all 4 of my pads to Mintex. Keeping the car clean is SO MUCH EASIER now. When I wash the car, the wheels aren't a complete mess 3 days later. Since there is much less brake dust, not only do you have to clean the wheels less often; but when you do have to clean them, it is so much quicker.
Mike

Default Mintex seem to be the most popular choice at the moment but there are others to choose from...

Rofen, Raybestos, Pagid, Rotex, Axxis, Ferodo are some of the manufacturers.
Do a archives search on "brake pads" to read some user impressions.
I currently have Raybestos on the front and plan to swich to Mintex all around next month in conjunction with a rotor upgrade.
DaveL
Default where are you planning to get the Mintex pads....(more)

I am waiting for my 99.5 and I wanted to switch pads right away to avoid the dust problems. Do you buy them at a parts store in your area or do you order them from somewhere? Thanks
Mike J
99.5 2.8 QTip with everything but the kitchen sink
