A4 with 40K miles. Dealer wants to do the full meal deal (pads, turn rotors, rebuild caliphers, etc,) and charge $1000. Leary about taking an Audi to a Midas or other brake shop. Found the how to change Audi pads in the tech section. Question is where is the best place to buy Audi Pads. Any other advise would be appreciated

......at 98 bucks an hour its not worth it!!! Mintex Red Box pads, Pagid or Porterfield RS4 are well respected and less dusty than stock or Ferodo (oem) There is also the ability to add the A8 rotors and TT caliper mount to your existing system and still remain well under 1000 bucks. heck, you can get a full front brake set up with fluid, lines, NEW PORSCHE calipers and pads for 1300-1500 bucks. you can get brake system parts from Clair, SPP, AWE, QRS and countless others.

People change out their pads and rotors all the time, without "rebuilding" the calipers. Consider another dealer who isn't looking to rip you off.

Most calipers are extremely easy to rebuild, they just consist of an o-ring and a dust seal. Cheap insurance, and something that should be done, but usually isn't.
That being said, I'm not sure how easy it would be to rebuild the calipers on an Audi. I bet the fronts are easy, but the rears might be more difficult because of the parking brake.

$1000 is a LOT of work...sounds like they are rebuilding at least two calipers, maybe 4. It's probably overkill.

Have had the same line from American car dealers, expected better from Audi. Have worked on my own cars for years and knew this was BS at 40K. Will use the references you gave to obtain pads. Thanks again
