I discover that the car after 3,500 rpm does
not change gears & at 110kph its doing 4,000rpm
& resulted the car consuming 22mpg petrol due
to the low gear ratios. (it doesn't change
to the appropriate gears to reduce the rpms)
Anyone can comment?

This is a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder. It turns high revs out of necessity. The high revs are a result of small displacement and gearing that is intended to make the car responsive in normal driving. At 110 mph, your car should be turning 4,000 RPM and is in fifth gear. In fact, I'm sure my '99 1.8Tq manual would be turning faster at that speed (I wish the fifth gear on the manuals was a little bit taller). You can't expect good gas mileage at 110 mph!
BDW
