Hi all. I just recently returned from a trip to Europe. While I was there I got a chance to drive through Germany on several of the autobahns. We drove from Holland to Koblenz then to Wolfsburg and back to Holland. We saw lots of intersting Audis that I have never seen or heard of.
For example we saw an A4 1.9 Diesel and a 1.8 (non-turbo). We saw lots of other Audis including some really nice A3s and TTs.
Does anyone know what the available engines are (fuel and size) on the A4 worldwide? Until going to Germany, I had assumed that the 1.8t (gas) and the 2.8 (gas) were the only engine sizes. Any ideas?
Charlie
'97 1.8tqms
PS. We got passed at speed by far more Audis than BMWs or Mercedes. I had always figured the BMWs owned the road over there. Interestingly enough, some of the cars that screamed by out pitiful rental car were diesels! I didn't know diesels were fast cars. I was really wishing I could play too, unfortunately our 1.6l Opel Astra just didn't have the cajones to keep up.

German magazine and had a comparison between a bunch of V6's in the same price category including Alfa. 328, A4 2.8, C280, and probably about 5 other cars. What was on top as far as top speed and 0-100kmh was A4 2.8. Well, A4 was actually rated 1st as far as overall perfomance. Which I bought that magazine then. That was sometime last year.
I think the 0-100kmh was 7.1, and the bimmer was 7.4 or something. Top speed was 240kmh? Does that sound right?

He was discussing a European magazine with numbers in Kilometers Per Hour, not Miles Per Hour. Besides this small distinction, the magazine was probably comparing European versions of the cars and not U.S. versions.
