Default A4 Erroneous Fuel Gauge Reading, who else experiencing???

When my A4 was new 6 months ago and had a full tank of gas, the fuel gauge went nearly all the way to the "F". Now for the last few months, I can fill up the car to the top of the fuel filler (until fuel is at the top of the neck) and the gauge reads between "F" and 3/4. Has anyone had the same problems and if so, has the dealer been able to fix.
I have seen the reports that the A6 has the same fuel gauge sensor problems, but never thought that it would happen to me. The report stated the quattro models have a different fuel tank configuration, which in turn gives the erroneous fuel readings.
I always reset the tripometer, but now I watch the miles to empty feature as well. My wife nearly ran out of gas today, because the fuel gauge read at just below 1/4 and then the "E" warning light and beep alerted her that she was on empty.
Very Frustrating!!!

Default I had the same thing.... (more)

The dealership replaced the sending unit under warrenty. According to a friend who's a benz mechanic the MTBE they put in gas (at least in CA) coats the unit and over time it doesn't work as well. Mine has been fine for the past year, apparently it only effects newer cars with electric sending units. Had the same problem with my mercedes. Hope that helps somewhat

Default I was at the drags this weekend and was sitting in my car waiting for another car when I saw my

gauge bouncing between 3/4 mark and 1/2 marks. It did this for about 3 min.

Default Kind of freaky that you just happen to mention that today, I just did a service and...

the 24000km service, one complaint I had with my 99.5 was the fuel guage. One day last week I left home with 1/4 tank of gas, drove 2 blocks and it went to empty, put in 10L of gass and it went to 1/2 full, later filled the tank and it only registered 7/8th full... so obviously there was a problem. Just so happens that today was service day and I mentioned it to the service guys, they "swong and recalibrated" the fuel guage via their computer and well,. seems to work. I havent filled up yet but I will be in the next few hours so I'll post again. Hopefully it will be this easy of a fix.
