but from hearing it run everytime i shut the car off, its on the passenger side under the air intake somewhere. I could have a look tomorrow, there are coolent lines I can follow.
The other bonus I got from replacing the control unit is, the pump now runs for 3 mins, the old ones ( pre 99.5) used to only run for 15 seconds

but that article uses the temp sensor in the back of the engine right?
From what i can tell the control module i have isn't connected to that sensor, but is connected to the one in the lower radiator hose, which is a 4 wire sensor not like any i've seen listed for the a4, they are all 3 wire, i figure this turns on the electric fan.
I think the time its runs for after shut down is pre programed, not tempuratue dependant

only a separate afterrun switch runs the after run pump.
the afterrun thermoswitch is at the back of the engine for the 2.7t, and is an additional sensor to the coolant temp sensor that is also at the back of the engine.
but your system might be different because you dont have the push electrical fan that the s4 has either, right?

looking at the bentley wiring, don't have the second temp sensor in the back of the engine.
The after run pump runs no matter what, even if the cars only running for 5 seconds, its still runs the full 3 mins. So its not temp activated, I think its just automatic

especially for my year 99, but the closest i can find in Bentley is for the 2001 2.8 with motronic, I cannot post a pic, i have the paper edition of Bentley, but is on page Y 687, and you can compare with page Y688 (2.7), you see I'm missing F95- after run coolant switch
