A4 running hotter after oil change?
A fellow A4 driving buddy of mine just had the oil changed on his 98 A4 2.8 w/125k on it, and now the oil temp seems to be running a little hotter than before. Engine temp unchanged.
Is this possible? Any reasonable explanation? The mechanic doesn't know why this might be happening.

Outside temps higher or using an oil that's not friction-modified.
For instance, the above-stated 30 to 40 switch is much thicker. Most 30s are on the thin side and shear to a 20 weight. Fresh 40 weight is quite thick and might not contain the same FM additives. Anyway, in the V6, oil temp is no problem. Just pick a 40 weight that has appropriate winter-rating and use it for proper intervals. I like 15w-40 for summer and 5w-40 for winter. Anything thinner is asking for engine wear and consumption/deposit problems. Mobil 1 0w-40 is a good catch-all oil but I like the Mobil 1 5w-40 T&S best.
