you'll never get the same standing start performance, and IMO that's the only big thing 2 me...

I have always driven manual transmissions for the fun of it. Got the A4 2.8 Tip and it's OK, but not nearly as fun. Shifts are slow, I think the tranny is sluggish generally. It's a smart transmission, but slow. Saps power too. Get a manual if you want a manual. You lose about 1 second in the 0-60.

Default And for his correct responces.

A tip is no less fun to drive once underway than a 5 speed.

Default Yes, they are fine. You do lose a little acceleration, but on the road, where it counts..

they are no different than the 5 speed cars. Anyone who says otherwise has never driven one. I have had plenty of 5 speed cars, and 2 tip cars, oveall, I actually now prefer the tip. that 3% of my driving where having a 5 speed would be 'more fun', is more than made up for by the convenience of not having to deal with a stick in traffic.

Of course, this ONLY applies to the 2.8, not the 1.8t, as I have not ever driven a 1.8t tip.

Default Negative ghostrider, tiptronics are the suck.

Well, if I lived in the city or had a horrible commute, I guess even I would think about driving a tiptronic car. But overall, they are not really fun.

If you don't mind giving up control to a computer, I suppose so.

Default they arent what id call fun to drive, but are more fun than just a full on auto...

if i didnt have to deal with so much traffic and get the car for so cheap i wouldnt have gotten it.

definitely take a manual over the tip

Default No.

I test drove them both. Huge difference, IMO. If you drove stick all your life, don't even think about auto. Have patience and keep looking for a manual.

If you drive an auto - then yeah - if you currently drive manual then probably not

Default I agree with Kris. My A4 is the first Automatic I have owned . . .

I really enjoy it. No question you are slower than a manual from the start---but then again 1) I don't drag race, 2) I don't street race, 3) I don't track the car, 4) live in the city and deal with terrible stop and go traffic daily. My GIAC ECU and Tip chips have made it much more fun for me to drive.

Owning a car that works for ME and what fits MY situation is all that matters to me. I could care less about what others think.
