Is an A4 tiptronic fun to drive?

At first I hated the thing, was almost painful to drive. Once I installed the GIAC engine/tranny chips the car became much more driveable and I will admit, pretty fun. It can't compare to a manual A4 for 0-60, but for a daily driver its not all that bad. The worst part is building boost from a dead stop.
My advice: If you're looking for a manual, a Tip is no substitute.. If you have another "fun" car and do not mind an Auto as a daily driver, it is not a bad option.

My father has a tip'd A6 2.7T, and i cannot stand it. Delay in shifting, computer continues to shift on you even when in tip mode.
Also, my left foot doesn't know what to do in a auto car![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I agree that i would take a tip over a non-tip auto...but the original poster was asking if a tip is fun, which i could never call a non-manual.
Even is SMGs become all the rage and are 2x better than an auto, i would still prefer the manual.
The interplay between foot and hand; between clutch and gear is a big part of the enjoyment in driving to me (had to toss in one slightly poetic line to satisfy RKA, sorry
).

Haven't driven it with a manual, but I just got the tip-chip put in with my K04, and the shifts are very fast and clean, whereas before the transmission was really sluggish. UrBaN RaLLeY is right, the standing start performance is never going to be up to a manual, but once you get going the performance difference is (IMO) zero (and if you're slow on the manual, the tip is going to be faster). Best $250 I ever spent on the car.

I've had mine a little more than a year also.My first 3 cars( and some others) were manuals and I've gotten past having to have them after 29 yrs of driving. One for a toy would be nice. But for a daily driver ,the tip is fine.My wife or daughter can drive it also.If you had ever had an hour long commute of only 18 miles with a manual shift you may take my position also.I did that for almost 3 yrs with a non-hydraulic clutch.Every drive was a workout.

I think I am just going to keep with my search for a manuel... I'm still in college so I definitlly don't need a "daily driver" :-P
But the day I start looking for a "daily driver" it will definitlly have to be a tip and not a regualr automatic.
Thanks for all yalls help.
