A4 w/o Snow Tires Unbelievable in Snow

I had been wondering if I needed snow tires for the A4 (live in PA) and my son suggested doing without until I see how it performs in the snow. THIS CAR IS UNBELIEVABLE! I have a fairly steep driveway that has nearly a foot of snow on it and the card doesn't even slip. I'm able to drive through snow that's hitting the underside of the car - how bad must it be for me to need snow tires? I'm guessing that with snow tires I could drive up a wall!

M+S tires will get you going when you have 4WD, but snow tires provide exceptional grip when both going AND stopping. If you experience fair amounts of snow/ice in your area during the winter season, snow tires will allow you to stop when you want, not when the tires want (like M+S).
You have to weigh the trade offs for your respective area.

I admit I did not have any problems driving - but in emergency situtations the ABS came on and I would slide. Now with snow tires I can drive confidently that I am better preparared for the unexpected.

My experience is similar...the performance is alot better than many here would lead you to believe. THe downside that I find that you really have to concentrate while driving with SP8000's on. Which is really no different than driving in any car in the snow.
Yesterday I went up a very steep incline, (Rt106 to New Canaan for you locals) in an ice storm with no problems. I also had no problems getting out of a plowed in parking spot. Stopping and turning requires more care, obviously.
I cant wait to get some snows next year!
