Cost is roughly $500-540 in parts for just the A8 front brake upgrade. That moves you from a 276mm rotor to a 312mm rotor. It retains use of the original calipers, so the pad sizes do not increase.
I would NOT be doing the upgrade on the rear as it's about $800 in parts alone, which is simply not worth it one bit.

This has been tossed around all week on AW...
you might want to do a search. I'm considering it myself. Most of the answers to questions like yours were positive if I recall.
Have you checked out the project A4 on europeanspeed.com? Looks like they did it and there's a write-up about it.

I read the posts.. i don't recall anyone actually mentioning
How worthwhile it was.
It's looking like I'm not gonna do it. It's not gonna improve stopping distance much, my car will be chipped + exhaust at BEST, and I don't track the car. I'm gonan spend the $$ elsewhere.

It is indeed worth the money...
My car can be hauled to a stop or slowed with much greater authority with them. I use EBC Green all round for what that is worth.
A quick comparison. With the 225 Pilot Sports on the car and when on clean, dry pavement I couldnt generate enough brake force to activate the ABS. With the addition of the A8 rotors I can. I first noticed this at the Quattro challenge in NH the fall of 2000 when still using the stock rotors. The accident avoidance course had you slam on the brakes (to activate the ABS) and execute a turn. I could not get the ABS to kick in. Later on I tried it just before swapping in the new rotors and again after a couple hundred miles of break-in at the same spot locally. Before - nope, after - yep.
Oh. The reduction in rear braking need seems to be handled by the system well. I dont experience early lockup/ABS activation in the rear - in fact I think it is the front that loses traction first.
