A8 wheels/tires. 225/55/R17...will they fit?
I'm thinking about picking up a set of wheels and tires from a 2000 A8. Tire size is 225/55/R17...right now I have 205/60/R15's on the car and they look a bit small, so I think there might not be an issue. However, I'd like to see if anybody has done this and had success before I make the purchase.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Sorry I didn't clarify...they come mounted on the A8 rims, which have the correct bolt pattern. So the issue in question is whether or not the tire/rim combo will be too tall for the wheel well.

There are two issues to be had:
First, the A8 tire size will be a full full inches larger in overall diameter than the current 205/60-15 size. Figure that the speedometer will be off by like nearly 8% and there could be some suspension/bodywork rubbing to be had so the tire size is likely not recommended.
Second, A8s tend to run wider wheels with lower offsets which may possibly not fit a B5 A4--even if the bolt pattern is identical.

225/45/17 is the tire size that most nearly matches the stock tire diameter for a 225 width 17" tire. I bought a set of 225/45/17 tires on stock S4 rims (same +45mm offset as stock A4). The wider tires and shorter sidewalls really messed with the steering effort and made the front end dart around more, does not track strait nearly as well.

I run 7.5Jx17" Audi wheels with the usual 45mm offset and 225/50 tyres.
Without a 5mm spacer on the rear they simply don't turn.
So I use a 3mm fr spacer and 5mm rear. Would be better with 10mm though.
with 45 aspect ratio tyres you'll have more clearance than I do but it'll still be close.
Oh, and with that size trye the speedo reading is within 1% of the true speed. (most std speedos over-read)

What he said.
It will be a full inch difference in diameter.
Even if the wheels did fit, it would look ghetto.
