Default aaacck! Coolant question...

What is the danger of mixing regular coolant with the new extended life stuff? Over a year ago my coolant was down and I wasn't in a position to head to the dealer. I called cherry hill impts and asked what I should do..they just said add coolant-I said any coolant..? Yes any coolant is fine...Are you sure?? yes..Recently I was reading the audi tech site and I noticed the bulletin about how mixing coolants was strictly prohibited.
I havn't had any problems and the coolant does not appear to be fouled(i.e. black or purpleish in color). I am really concerned about this...anyone have any thoughts?

Default Probably not a problem...you could change though

I ended up with some original "green" coolant mixed in with the new Prestone 5/50k oragne stuff when changing my wifes antifreeze in her '96 GSX the first time. It happened because there are some pockets that are impossible to drain and I didnt realize it. The resulting coolant mix was an orange-brown color but it worked fine. I ended up draining-flushing-changing it again a year later because I didnt like the color, but there have been no problems.

The factory Audi coolant looks a lot like the Prestone 5/50k stuff, but it might be something else.

Default The conflict I am concerned about is not really the color, but the new extended life

coolant which is inthe 14's which supposedly isn't supposed to mix with regular coolant. It is supposedly good for the life of the engine. Thanks though...

NO. It has to be g-12 compliant.

Default Not sure what g-12 compliant means...

...GSX was definatelly ordinary ethyline-glycol and the Prestone 5/50 stuff worked OK with it.

In fact the Prestone site simply says not to mix it with regulat e-g because the 5/50 stuff's life will be reduced. Doesnt mention g-12, onlly that it is DEX-COOL compatible.
